Neurofeedback

What is neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback, or electroencephalography (EEG) biofeedback, is a reward-based training therapy for your brain.

During neurofeedback at Integrative Medica, our providers use an EEG and advanced computer software to monitor and evaluate your brainwave activity. They then stimulate, retrain, and reorganize the neural activity in your brain using various stimuli, such as videos, games, or sounds.

With neurofeedback, our providers find your abnormal brainwave patterns and make them normal. When you have normal brainwave activity, your brain’s ability to self-regulate improves. This means your brain has more control over your emotions, behaviors, and thoughts.

Am I a good candidate for neurofeedback?

When you visit Integrative Medica for a neurofeedback consultation, our providers perform an in-depth evaluation to determine if it’s the right therapy for you.

They may consider you a good candidate for neurofeedback if you’re looking for an effective non-drug treatment to help you manage:

  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Restless legs syndrome
  • Epilepsy
  • Autism
  • Learning disabilities
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder

They may also consider you a good candidate for neurofeedback if you’re searching for an alternative therapy to enhance your mental energy and concentration.

What happens during neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback at Integrative Medica is a non-invasive and painless in-office therapy that takes 30 to 60 minutes.

During your session, our providers place special sensors on specific areas of your head that are attached to the EEG. The EEG and computer program process the information collected by the sensors and evaluate your brainwave activity.

Then, while you sit and relax in the therapy room, our providers use games, videos, or sounds to change your brainwave activity. You will immediately get feedback when your brainwave patterns improve, encouraging your brainwave activity toward more desirable patterns.

You should notice an improvement in your brain function immediately after your first neurofeedback session.

How many neurofeedback treatments do I need?

Our providers create personalized neurofeedback treatment plans based on your unique needs, mental and medical health history, and personal goals. In general, most patients benefit from weekly neurofeedback sessions for a total of 20 weeks.

You should notice continued improvements in your stress level, sleep, and mental clarity in between each of your sessions.
