MS (Multiple Sclerosis)

" My search for answers to restore my health began after illness caused me to quit my job and lose my quality of life. I have been healthy most of my life until I found myself working to the point of exhaustion due to under-staffing at work. I began having a lot of symptoms. I was experiencing frequent episodes of severe weakness and pain in my lower back that made it difficult to stand. The pain was so strong that I had to take extra breaks at work and even leave early some days. I had no energy to do anything at home or for my family. "

" I had many other unexplained symptoms. The itchy rashes on my wrists and neck, pressure in my lungs, and chest pain. Some days I experienced tingling in my arms and legs. Then there were the stomach issues. Everything I ate caused sharp abdominal pain and symptoms of IBS. Brain fog was my daily companion.   Within 3 months from onset, these conditions caused me to quit my job and to lose my ability to accomplish many daily tasks because of the fatigue and pain.

Each doctor I saw prescribed a medication for the symptom but without success in clearing it up. My family doctor diagnosed me with an auto immune disorder, and possibly Multiple Sclerosis. I tried over the counter remedies and some prescriptions. Ultimately, I just wanted to know why my body was doing these things and how to heal myself instead of just treating symptoms forever.

After much searching, I found Dr. Schmutz. I was very pleased with how he carefully researched my conditions to find the root causes. After some tests, he prescribed an individualized treatment plan, which included a clean diet, as well as a list of foods that I am sensitive to and should avoid. He recommended several supplements to heal my immune system, and leaky gut, as well as IV therapies. Dr. Schmutz was there every step of the way to make sure I was doing well. I appreciated how he explained the science behind the treatments. After two months, my symptoms lessened, and by six months the treatments he prescribed were successful in restoring my energy and ability to move without pain! The other symptoms also cleared up! It was amazing to have my life back again! I am so grateful for a doctor that is interested in healing the body rather than just masking symptoms.

I believe Dr. Schmutz and his office truly care about restoring health to the individual. They are thoughtful, and willing to listen and answer my questions. My experience was comforting and healing. I continue to turn to Dr. Schmutz for his knowledge and quality care. I have met several other patients there who travel long distances, even from out of state to receive treatment from Dr. Schmutz. I recommend him to my family, my friends, and anyone who is searching for better solutions to their health. "

Vestibular Migraine Headaches

"I’m a dad of three and have been married for 16 years. My health journey began several years ago as I started to feel the effects of aging and the stress of providing for a young and growing family. I was so focused on work and kids that I didn’t put much of a priority on personal health. As time went on and the demands of family and professional life began to increase, I started to eat more unhealthy foods and stopped exercising. This lethargic lifestyle began to take its toll and before I knew it, I was faced with a variety of health issues including weight gain, high blood pressure, insomnia, and kidney stones."

" I vividly remember being hospitalized with kidney stones and wondering where things had gone wrong. For most of my life I was physically active and healthy, and as I laid in the hospital bed, I felt truly helpless and feared for the future. After spending two nights in the hospital and almost a week at home recovering, I decided that it was time to make a change. I made it my personal mission to do everything possible to improve my health so that I could be a better dad and husband.

I knew that I needed to make changes, but progress was slow and there were many obstacles in my way. I had always liked running as a kid and decided that this would be my physical activity going forward. I’ll never forget how at first I could barely make it around the neighborhood without feeling light headed and sick to my stomach. Then one day I decided it was time to leave the neighborhood and push myself up a trail that was near my house. As I began to run my heart started to pound faster and faster. This feeling pulsed throughout my body and made it impossible to focus on anything else. I started to wonder if I was having a heart attack or something even worse. I made up my mind to push through the pain and do whatever it took to live a healthier lifestyle. Nothing serious happened, but it was then than I really accepted that there were no shortcuts to better health, and that this would be a lifelong journey.

I continued to run for a few years and integrated yoga, weights and healthy eating into my routine. While I continued to see health improvements, I knew that I still had a long way to go and couldn’t shake the feeling that another health issue might set me back.

Then last year it happened. It started with an ear infection that caused headaches and morphed into what doctors diagnosed as a vestibular migraine in my inner ear. Specialist after specialist confirmed this diagnosis and told me that I would have to wait it out, as treatment options were limited. This lasted for several months and caused vision problems, vertigo, and insomnia, to name just a few of the symptoms. The doctors had recommended Dramamine and while I took their advice, I didn’t want to acknowledge that this may last for an extended period. In spite of the medication, it was hard to function at a high level professionally, physically, or with my family. There were continued CAT scans, MRIs, specialists, and endless amounts of antibiotics and steroids—not to mention the cost of tests and Dramamine hauls. That helpless feeling returned and once again I feared for the future.

My wife asked if I was willing to try something new. As a registered nurse she had heard about amazing results from holistic and integrative medicine. I was willing to try anything to get my health back. So, she looked up the highest rated integrative doctor in our area and scheduled me an appointment. We met with Dr. Jake Schmutz in January, and within a few minutes of consulting with him, I had a sense of calm and thought: this is going to be my way back to better health. I asked if he had ever seen a patient like me and more importantly, did they heal? His response stuck with me ever since “Men are stubborn, and they usually don’t listen, but you’ll get better if you do exactly what I tell you to do.” I trusted what he said and fully committed to his treatment plan. He ran some tests, asked me a few questions about my lifestyle and started to make recommendations. I walked out of his office with a few supplements and immediately started to see results. My vertigo had calmed, I was sleeping through the night again and life was beginning to return to normalcy, although not yet perfect. I made a follow-up appointment to review test results, and made prescribed new supplements based on those results. Within a month of that follow-up appointment I was 90% improved and back to a normal life. Through this I have concluded that while I had been exercising and eating healthy, I was still ignoring the negatives of traditional medicine and pharmaceuticals. It was painfully obvious that I lacked vitamins and supplements as part of my overall health routine, and this was causing me to be out of balance.

Seven months later and I’ve yet to see a traditional doctor for anything. I’m back to a happy, healthy and very productive lifestyle. More importantly, I feel like I’ve finally found the balance that I was lacking. I’m the most productive I’ve ever been at work, my work-out routine is consistent and my dad and husband skills have improved (not an easy thing to do). I still have challenges like anyone else, but I’ve found a new tool to treat them. I continue to see Dr. Schmutz to fine tune my health and won’t touch a supplement unless he approves. "

Breast Cancer

" A couple of weeks before leaving for our Cruise to Panama, I was lying in bed one morning and felt pain in my left breast, and found a lump.   Can you imagine what went through my mind? I got up and got ready for work. That morning I called my doctor’s office and he was on vacation, but they got me in with another doctor. Immediately I was set up for a mammogram at the hospital. "

" A couple of days later they received the results and found something on the X-Ray, so they immediately ordered an Ultrasound. The radiologist said there was definitely an abnormality there so he wanted to do a biopsy right then and there. I don’t remember but I think I had to wait a couple of days for the biopsy to come back.

It was CANCER.

They then set up an appointment for me with a surgeon.   My husband, and I went into the surgeon’s office and consulted with him. He was awesome. I really liked him. At that time we told him that we had this Cruise planned to the Panama Canal. We were planning on leaving on Sunday of that week. He said, “Let me call my Head of Oncology and see if he thinks it’s ok to go on your trip”.   The Head of Oncology said, “Yes, by all means, go on your trip and we will start treatment when you return”. The surgeon said it would be okay also, but was glad that he checked with the Head of Oncology for affirmation. He also told me they liked to do 3 months of chemo therapy and radiation before the surgery to shrink the tumor. Soon after I had an appointment with the Oncology Doctor they had set me up with.   We told her about our trip and she said by NO means should I go on this trip and that we needed to start treatment immediately. She gave me prescriptions for Port Cream and medications for pain.

We were not prepared to go right into treatment, and felt like we needed to go on our trip. Number one it was a lot of money to lose and number two the surgeon and Head of Oncology told us it would be okay. Anyway, I needed time for all this to process. We went on our trip and while we were gone, our son, who lost his 5 year old daughter to cancer a few years back, found Dr. Schmutz. Our son, felt like his daughter died more from the chemo-therapy treatments than the cancer itself. So, when we arrived home, we made an appointment with Dr. Jacob Schmutz.

What a blessing in our lives that we found him. When we first met, he immediately put me at ease. I felt like he had told me more about my cancer than the oncologist. All she wanted to do was get treatment started before I could say “No.”   Needless, to say, I did three months of Vitamin C Treatments and UBI’s with Dr. Schmutz. Yes, they were hard, every 3 weeks I would have a Vitamin C Treatment and other weeks a UBI. The Vitamin C treatments would take 3 to 4 hours for 75 units to drop into my system intravenously. Yes, I was dizzy and would have nausea right after for a while. Then I felt exhausted for about 24 hours, but, most people I understand don’t feel this way.   After that I felt wonderful. It gave me tons of energy and a good outlook on life. Three months later I had the surgery and the lump was removed. They did not have to remove my whole breast, just a lumpectomy, because the tumor had shrunk so much. After, surgery I went back to Dr. Schmutz for a few more treatments.

I have been cancer free for 3 years now. I would recommend going to Dr. Schmutz to anyone who has breast cancer. He’s not only a great Doctor but, a great person, along with the rest of his office staff. They were all very professional and very personable. Thank you to Dr. Schmutz and Rose Marie and the rest of the staff at Integrative Medica! I will never forget you. "

" In the summer of 2016, I started to experience tenderness, pain, and stiffness in my upper arm, shoulder, and neck area. I assumed it was the result of swinging like a monkey from the trees onto a trampoline while vacationing at some cabins with my family. As time passed, and I expected to begin to feel better, but didn’t, I wondered if something more than minor muscle strain was going on.

At the referral of a neighbor, I visited a manual therapist to see if she could do something to promote the tissue and muscle healing I wasn’t finding yet. I started to feel a little better in my upper body, but then I started to feel the same type of pain, tenderness, and stiffness in my knees and feet. My thought was, “Why didn’t I feel this lower body pain sooner, like the upper body pain?” I asked my manual therapist if this was normal and she said “no.”

It was only a few days after my last visit to the manual therapist that I noticed that my upper body was in pain again. My wrists and hands were now “on fire” and I was struggling to even lift up the corner flap of my bed sheet at night to re-position it over my body.

After describing the symptoms to my sister, she thought it was gout. And since I have an uncle on each side of my family tree who has had issues with gout, I scheduled a visit to my primary care physician to find out for sure. He ran some blood tests and the results showed that I had Rheumatoid Arthritis. To help, he prescribed an anti-inflammatory drug and referred me to a rheumatologist. However I immediately decided I wanted to try another route. My cousin had a very long and unsuccessful experience with a life threatening disease that mainstream was unable to resolve. Not until he found Dr. Tennant in Texas, who was trained in both traditional and alternative medicine, was my cousin able to finally heal and function in his life again.

Knowing what I learned from my cousin and his family experiences with Dr. Tennant, and hearing all of the frightful side effects of popular Rheumatoid Arthritis pharmaceuticals, I opted to find a “Dr. Tennant” in Utah (where I live).

Enter Dr. Schmutz and Integrative Medica...

I am very pleased and impressed with my care under the direction of Dr. Jacob Schmutz. He provides a personal approach adapted to each individual’s needs. During my initial stages of treatment, I spent a lot of time in Dr. Schmutz’s office. I had the opportunity to interact with a number of different patients having a variety of health issues and challenges...Each person I met always expressed positive results with their treatments, and I can definitely say I have had positive results. I won’t lie though, it hasn’t always been fun...I have been asked to radically change my diet. For me food is often connected and used in coping with emotion. For a length of time, in the initial stages of treatment, I also took lots of time each week from my available hours in a day to receive IV treatments. I still swallow a lot of supplements every day (related to the Rheumatoid Arthritis and some mental health issues)...and hardest of all, insurance never covers anything. With all this said, I still think I am far better off than I would be if I had taken popular pharmaceuticals. I am healthier, and have lost tons of weight. My medical vital records used to always say morbidly obese, now I am normal weight. It takes time to put those first “fires” out and restore gut health, but it works...

Always remember, there are so many factors to consider when it comes to health...nutrition, gut health, dental health, toxins, emotion, stress, organic pathogens, voltage/energy pathway integrity, etc. I do my best to control these things with the guidance of Dr. Schmutz, but occasionally, I still end up with “fires” in my body... These fires" can incapacitate me for a while, but between Dr. Schmutz's sound protocols and some ibuprofen, I am able to put the "fires" out again.

One last thing I should also mention is that part of my initial healing protocol, as recommended by my cousin (who now, so impressed/touched/inspired by Dr. Tennant’s lifesaving services to him, is now a doctor himself working with Dr. Tennant at his institute in Texas), involved addressing one of the root causes for a lot of health problems, my teeth. I went to Dr. Wall’s & Dr. Baker’s biological dental clinic in Bountiful, UT and had some amalgams removed and a cavitation issue resolved (from prior wisdom tooth extraction) prior to my first appointment with Dr. Schmutz. It was a surprise to me when I was carrying my folder from the biological dental treatment office with me into Dr. Schmutz’s office how Dr. Schmutz recognized it. It turns out that Dr. Schmutz and Dr. Wall work with each other to help their patients...so you might be referred to Dr. Wall to address your teeth if Dr. Schmutz determines it will be necessary and beneficial to restoration of your health. Microscopic Colitis

" Early last summer I experienced a four-week long bout of diarrhea. I first visited an urgent care clinic and they were unable to find the cause of my symptoms. My next step was to make an appointment with a gastroenterologist. One colonoscopy later, I was diagnosed with microscopic colitis. I was offered medications aimed at reducing symptoms and controlling flare-ups. I respectfully declined the meds and made an appointment with Dr. Schmutz. "

" Following a detailed evaluation regarding my health history and current symptoms, he prescribed an anti-inflammatory diet, natural supplementation, nutritional IV’s and ultraviolet blood irradiation (UBI) w/ozone therapies. I am very pleased with the results as the combination of therapies eliminated my symptoms and allowed me to get on with my life! There were also some side benefits to the therapies. For years I had experienced bruising from very light trauma to my extremities. This is no longer the case! Dr. Schmutz indicated that the UBI w/ozone treatments had strengthened my blood vessels. I also had a thickening and discoloration of the toenails on my left foot. This also resolved due to the antimicrobial effects of the UBI treatments! Both of these side benefits have lasted, to date, for nearly a year after the treatments ended!

I am currently working with Dr. Schmutz to help alleviate some degeneration in the joints of my toes due to a bunion and osteoarthritis. He is using prolozone injections into the joints to begin the regeneration process. The therapy is not complete but the injections have provided decreased pain and increased function in the joints.

If you are experiencing a health issue and are tired of traditional medicine’s “a pill for an ill” model, give Dr. Schmutz and his staff a try- you’ll be glad you did! "
